Searching Tips.

Keyword in the search bar, searches most items in the database, or through the various words or pictures below the bar

'Browse our Archives' and 'Browse our Library' allows for serendipitous searching.

Once the initial search is started you can narrow it down by selecting ‘Exact Phrase match’ or ‘Refine Search Terms’.

Searches look through all the database's titles, descriptions, and PDF text.

You can also narrow your search from a date (dd/mm/yyyy) to another date (dd/mm/yyyy).

How can I find my Baptismal certificate?

Check to see if the Archives Centre holds all the parish records for the relevant church, if not then contact the church that baptized you directly.

What hours are you open?

We are open from 8am till 4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Visits by appointment only.

How can I find my confirmation paper?

Email us with your name, year of confirmation and parish and we will send you a scanned copy.

How can I find my ancestors birth, marriage and death information?

State Governments records hold these, but we have some very early ones.  Email us with as much information as you have and we're see if we can help you.

What if I can't find anything?

Feel free to email us and we'll see what we can find.

What if I have some items that I wish to donate?

Generally, we only take items relating to Melbourne Anglicans and Melbourne Anglicanism. Old family Bibles are generally not accepted.

As we are trying to build up our collection of books published by Melbourne clergy, check to see if we already have it, if not, email us with all the details.  

How do I know what items are copyright?

As most items are more that 35years old, Copyright generally does not apply.  If in doubt contact us.

How do I acknowledge what I have accessed?

Please acknowledge any information taken from our website: "Archives of the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne".

Which parish archives do we need to keep?

Diocesan Archives has a list of what parishes need to keep, so email us and we'll send it to you.  (archives@melbourneanglican.org.au)  We can also come out and advise you on how and where to store them. Parishes must store their own archives. The Diocesan Centre  stores archives from closed or amalgamated parishes.
