The Reverend Alan Hughes

It is with sadness that I notify you of the death of Reverend Alan Hughes on Wednesday 12 November.

Alan was ordained as Deacon in Melbourne in February 1990 and priested also in Melbourne in
December of the same year.

After his deaconing Alan was an assistant curate at Glenroy (1990-92); Locum Tenens St Michaels All
Angels Broadmeadows (1993); Priest in Charge St Michaels/St Luke’s Dandenong (1993-96); Incumbent
(1996-2001); Area Dean Dandenong (1995-2001); Incumbent Church of the Epiphany Hoppers Crossing
(2001-2008); Area Dean of Williamstown (2003-2006); Southern Region Officer (2008); Incumbent St
Paul’s Frankston (2009-14); Archdeacon Frankston (2009); Archdeacon Extension Frankston (2014-17);
Priest in Charge St Andrew’s Somerville (2011-17).

On his retirement Alan held a permission to officiate from 2017 until his early onset Alzheimer’s
disease prevented him from continuing in ministry.

Alan’s funeral will take place on Saturday 29th November at St. John’s Diamond Creek, commencing at
10.30am. The service will also be livestreamed, and this can be viewed via Tobin Brothers
livestream here.

The service will be followed with refreshments served in the parish hall. We pray for his wife
Dorothy and family at this time of loss and grief.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory. Grace and peace in Christ Jesus
