Correspondence from Revd. A. J. Pickering Vicarage Heidelberg, November 20 1882 accepting the ministerial charge of the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg; July 22 1891, suggesting that an allowance be made from the Consolidated Fund for the services of a Chaplain for the other portion of Hospital for Consumption, Heidelberg. There will be about 40 beds and the patients are generally admitted in the last stages of the disease. The original part of the building was opened in January 1890. Revd. Pickering visits the hospital and receives 15 pounds a quarter which is the present amount of Interest on the Austin Endowment. The amount received from the endowment is not a large sum considering the time that has to be devoted together with the nature of the work, especially in the cancer wards... The building for cancer patients, containing two wards, has been erected since my appointment as chaplain. There are 16 beds in these and 67 in the general wards... and letter dated June 7 1900 from Revd. Pickering about the Chaplaincy allowance.
