The Right Reverend Peter Thomas Danaher  

The Right Reverend Peter Danaher died on Saturday 28 February 2026.

Peter was ordained Deacon in the Diocese of Melbourne in March 1987 and priested in December of the 
same year. He was commissioned in the Diocese of Bathurst in 2005.

Following his ordination, Peter served as Assistant Curate at Blackburn North (1987-88); Assistant 
Curate Toorak (1988-89); Priest in Charge Bentleigh East (1989-92), becoming Incumbent from 
(1992-96). Peter served as Area Dean in Moorabbin (1992-96).

In 1997 Peter moved to New South Wales becoming the Area Dean of Barker (1997-99); Rector in Dubbo 
(1997-2001). He served as Police Chaplain from (1998-2005). He was the Administrator of the 
Bathurst Diocese from (2000-01); Diocesan Archdeacon (2000-05); Vicar General (2001-09).

Peter was the principal Coordinator of General Synod (2002-09). He served as an Assistant Bishop 
Bathurst (2005-09). Regional Ministry Coordinator at Plains, Bathurst (2007-09).

Peter returned to Victoria in 2009, serving as the Incumbent at All Saints Newtown, Geelong West 
(2009); Area Dean Corio (2010).  He was a member of the Professional Standards Board in 2011; Chair 
of the Provincial Ecumenical Affairs Committee (2011).

Following retirement from full-time ministry, Peter continued to serve the Diocese with Permission 
to Officiate from 2016 until September 2023.

Peter’s funeral will take place at Geelong Memorial Park Outdoor Pavillion, 62-102 Burvilles Road, 
Mount Duneed on Friday March 13, 2026 commencing at 2:00pm. The service will be livestreamed and 
may be viewed via this link. Refreshments will be served in the parish hall following the service.

We hold in prayer his wife, Caroline, and their family at this time of loss and grief. May Peter 
rest in peace and rise in glory.
