Homan, Raglan, from the Bishop of Melbourne, regarding transferring from Raglan (….where the result of your labours, whatever maybe the cause, has certainly not been satisfactory) to Creswick…within reach of an excellent man, the Rev. J. Potter….

Perry…The question whether we should unite with the Wesleyans in establishing or carrying on a schooling any particular place must be decided by the circumstances of that place it is altogether one of Christian expediency…With respect to your pecuniary affairs…You should consider it necessary here , as it would be in England, to live within your income….The Diocesan Board has no funds at hand, but is considerable in debt….I am not sure that I acted kindly to you, or wisely for the church in allowing you and assisting you to employ a nanny….

“The Rev. Canon Homan, who for many years officiated in this Diocese, has passed to his rest. He was born near Dublin in 1814, and was thus in his eighty-second year at the time of his death. Educated at Trinity College, where he obtained the degree of M.A., he was ordained priest by the Bishop of Derry in 1849, after spending some years in teaching. A year in a curacy in Ireland was followed by work at S. Aidan’s College, Liverpool, and in 1856 he came to Melbourne. Bishop Perry at once appointed him to the charge of Raglan, then known as Fiery Creek, including Creswick, Ararat, and Stawell. In 1857 Mr. Homan settled in Ararat, and a few years later was appointed a canon at St. James’ Pro-Cathedral by Bishop Perry. In 1889, after more than 30 years’ hard and conscientious work at Ararat, where he won universal respect, he resigned in consequence of advancing age and failing health and afterwards settled in Moonee Ponds. For the last three months he was confined to his bed, and on September 21st, having faithfully served his generation, he fell asleep.
