I beg to inform you that your application for a Grant from the Diocesan Fund of the Diocese has been inadvertently overlooked. It will however receive consideration at the next meeting of the Finance Committee of the Council of the Diocese.... July 5 1876. Page 1.
- The Reverend S. D. Green ( Samuel Dutton ) - I beg to forward to you herewith a cheque for 3 pounds 7 shillings and nine pence being the amount payable to you as Minister at Chiltern ( from May 27 to June 30 at 35 pounds per annum ) from the Grant of the Colonial and Continental Church Society... July 5 1876. Page 4.
- To the Bishop of Melbourne - On the receipt of your letter in which under your own hand you referred to your resignation of your Bishopric the Dean after consulting with Sir W. Stawell felt justified in notifying? to the Board of Electors that he had received your resignation in writing at a meeting he called specially..... Captain Sturt? occupied Bishopscourt at a nominal rent of 10 pounds per month the tenancy being terminable at any time on giving a month's notice on either side... July 10 1876. Pages 29 - 30.
- To The Rev. J. H. Gregory ( John Herbert ) - I was very glad to find from the Rev. M. H Becher ( Michael Henry ) that Miss Attenborough had before her death had given legal effect to her generous intentions in connection with the Church at Dingley as I was fearful that this might prove another of the cases which has come under my notice as Registrar of the Diocese in which the intentions of donors have been neutralised by their having failed to give legal effect to them in their life time. There is at the registry a "Church Lands Register" in which are to be found particulars of the various properties belonging to the Church and I would suggest to you that it might be well to have this gift of Miss Attenborough recorded there and if you agree with me I will enter in the Register such particulars as you may see fit to furnish me with. For the great majority of cases where lands are vested in several Trustees all of whom are equally entitled ... Dingley Trust.... they can be deposited at the Registry .. July 12 1876. page 34.

I have duly received application to bring Golden Sq. land under the State Aid Abolition Act to which I have obtained the VC? signature and will lose no time in forwarding to the Governor for approval in Council. Herring ( John Edward ) - ( Cable Index - 01 Apr 1876-30 Sep 1878 registrar diocese Ballarat ) - According to arrangement I propose remitting to the _ of your sustentation Fund on the 21st instant 2164 pounds 12 shillings and nine pence being the amount payable to your Diocese according to the accompanying memorandum. Morris Esquire ( Edward Ellis Morris Headmaster Melbourne Grammar School 1883 – 1885 - A lady I know, who, as the saying is " has seen better days " wants to send her son to the Grammar School, but her power of paying fees is very limited... The boy's father was in the Government service and occupied such a position in the country that the Bishop and Mrs [Frances] Perry used to stay at his house... July 21 1876. Page 90.

W. A. E. Cooke ... kindly consent to act as "lay-helper"... July 25 1876. Page 110.
- To The Venerable Archdeacon Stretch, Inkerman Road St. Kilda ... I beg to inform you 1. That all the Clergy of Melbourne and the Suburbs are Surrogates and issue licences of Marriage. 2. The payment of the licence is 3 pound. 3 shillings of which 1 pound 1 shilling pertains to the Surrogate and 2 pounds 2 shillings goes to the Church Management Fund. There is no fee chargeable for the performance of the marriage whether under licence or banns., but of course fee with offering are accepted. October 24 1870. Page 401.

-To His Honor Stephens (James Wilberforce Stephen ) - My dear Judge - I have made diligent search but cannot find the draft of your appointment as Chancellor, nor could I find any record of its registration. .... In January 1855 when the Bishop made his first visit to England he was desirous of appointing the Dean Vicar General and it appearing ...1845, page 178 that the "office of Chancellor .... ". January 2 1877. Pages 644 - 666.
- To The Superintendent Melbourne Hospital - I have the honor by direction of the Very Reverend Dr Macartney, Vicar General of the Church of England to enquire whether it is fact as stated in _ days Argus that the Committee of the Melbourne Hospital has resolved that the distribution of tracts to patients have in future be altogether prohibited. The Vicar General has requested that enquiry to be made as he cannot bring himself to believe that the Committee would adopt a resolution of such a character as to ignore the feelings of a large body of persons including among them the suffering inmates of the Hospital ... regard the spiritual welfare of an individual deserving of as much consideration as his physical condition. - To Major Pitt - The arrival of the mail steamer on Sunday morning at which in all probability be a very early and inconvenient time for visitors makes it improbable to welcome the Bishop in a ceremonious manner. Under the circumstances it is thought that it would not be right to accept your very kind offer which has been highly appreciated, to plan the state carriage at the disposal of the Bishop at landing. The Vicar General will take care to be at Williamstown when the steamer arrives and will accompany the Bishop and Mrs Moorhouse to Government House in a wagonette which the Vicar General will have in readiness for them on the steamer's arrival.
