Scott ( Edwin Henry ) Kerang - Mr Percy Oakden and the executors of the will of the late Mr Leonard Terry have agreed to remit the fee due to the late firm of Terry and Oakden for examining and reporting on the plans at Koondrook on the condition that the amount of 2.2.0 pounds is entered as a donation from the firm of Messrs Terry and Oakden. - To R. Sellar Esquire - The Bishop will obtain the Archdeacon's report about the sites in the Orrong Road. He thinks the movement for the separation of Oakleigh and Malvern should come from the people. If a petition be sent in he will submit to Council. November 10 1884. Page 69.
- to The Very Reverend The Dean of Melbourne - By direction of the Bishop I forward to you the accompanying letter from Mr Sellar. His Lordship will be glad if you will confir with Mr Langley and Mr Godby as to the sites in the Orrong Road which Mr Sellar thinks are too near together, and give him (the bishop) your opinion on the subject, November 10 1884. Sturcke Esquire Church Offices Adelaide - The affairs of the Church of England in Victoria are managed by an assembly constituted under the provisions of an Act of Colonial Legislature which was reserved for and received by Royal assent and in the exercise of the provisions of this Act the Assembly has passed special Acts for the representation therein of the members of the Church. I send you by book post a copy of our Assembly Constitution Acts and of all the Acts which under its authority have been papered by the Church Assembly in the Diocese of Melbourne.. November 11 1884. Page 76.
- To Miss L. E. Wight Jersey House Hewlitt Street Cheltenham England .. the project of establishing a Girl's High School here has made progress. The Committee charged with the duty of promoting the object have had several meetings; they have prepared a Bill for constitution of the School which will be considered by our Church Assembly at a special meeting to be held on the 3rd of next month, and I have very little doubt that in due course the school will come into existence... Even if the Church Assembly decide at once on proceeding with the project, much time must elapse before the money needed for building operations can be raised, and the building itself be designed and actually constructed. The Bill for the Foundation of the School provides for its management by a Council. Should the Bill pass substantially in its present form I will take care to bring your application under the notice of the Managing Body when the time arrives for considering the appointment of a Headmistress or Master. November 12 1884. Page 79.
- To The Honorable Dr Hearn - You will have received notice of a special meeting of the Church Assembly to be held on the 3rd December and the members present may be a majority of two thirds of the Clergy and Laity and with the consent of the Bishop transact other business.. that which the Assembly has been convened to consider. In all probability our new Act will before the 3 of Dec have received the royal assent and it will be a very good thing if we availed ourselves of this special session to get a resolution papered under which we could call into existence within our Diocese the corporate body of trustees the Act was obtained to create... There is no ? provision in the act for "making"a common seal. I presume that the right of the Trustees to make a seal is implicitly conferred by Section 4.... November 20 1884. Pages 102 - 103. Suggested form of resolution. Page 104. Resolved that it is expedient and the assembly desires that there be constituted within the Diocese of Melbourne a corporate body of Trustees for the purpose of holding property in trust for the benefit of the Church "within such"? Diocese. That the following persons be such Trustees ... I think would be Bishop, Chancellor and Registrar of the Diocese and two others.. be incorporated under the name of the Incorporated Trustees of the church of England in the Diocese of Melbourne. - To The Honorable Dr Hearn - I am much obliged to you for your letter in reply to mine of the 20th which I submitted to the bishop who is desirous of getting the Assembly at its special session which opens tomorrow to pass a resolution in accordance with S. 2. of out Trust Act and have requested me to invite our members to do so... December 1 1884. Pages 130 - 131.

Kane ( Henry Plow ) ... the Bishop to consecrate St John's Church East Brighton, his Lordship directs me to say that his only free day the year is Friday, the 12th December, when he will consecrate the Church at 8 p.m. if you will write at once saying the day will be accepted.. December 2 1884. Page 133.
- To The Venerable Archdeacon MacCullagh- I have no doubt that the member of your congregation was baptised by the Rev. A. C. Thomson the first incumbent of St James Melbourne, but it will be necessary for him to apply to the Registrar Journal? for the certificate as the records of baptisms prior to 1853 are now in his office. Stackhouse ( Arthur Rashleigh ) - In reply.. that Archdeacon Tucker will prepare a plan of the Bishop's visitation in the North East and his Lordship wishes Yea to be included in the plan. Selborne Chambers - The Bishop submitted to the Council of the Diocese at its last meeting your letter enquiring whether the Bishop in Council would be willing to accept Mr Percy Oakden as the architect to supervise the erection of the buildings on the St James Church lands when the Council advised that it would be inexpedient that the supervision should be by the architect employed to erect the buildings and that Messrs Reed, Henderson & Smart be the architect to be entrusted with supervision. December 11 1884. Page 157.

- To The Right Reverend The Lord Bishop of Melbourne - In obedience to your Lordship's direction I visited St Peter's Church and obtained from Canon Handfield exact particulars of the proposed alterations of the Holy table... December 15 1884. Pages 167 - 168.
- To H. N. P. Wollaston Esquire Malvern - In reply .. that as soon as the Cathedral is built, and the Chapter House affords a place where such lectures can be given by the Canons as are mentioned in his address to the Church Assembly to which you direct his attention, he hopes to carry out the scheme contemplated in the address. December 18 1884. Page 181. See attached Cathedral file.
- To The Reverend J. A. White ( Joseph Addison ) - In accordance with your request I forward herewith forms of si quis and Testimonial. The latter must be signed by 3 baptised clergyman ( incumbents ) of the Diocese, and the former must be read in the Church where you are in the habit of officiating and signed by the officiating Minister and one or more of the guardians. There is no objection to your reading the si quis yourself, if you cannot get someone to take your place for the Sunday. When the documents have been duly signed, you must send them to Registry. They should be sent in 3 weeks before the day appointed for the ordination. December 23 1884. Page 194.
- To The Reverend R. J. Mercer ( Rigbye Johnson ) - In reply... the Bishop of Melbourne directs me to say that he hopes to give you the 1st Sunday in February. He is going to spend his annual holiday at a place near Lorne and intends to proceed to Ballarat on the 31st January before returning home. December 24 1884. Page 197.
- To The Reverend B. Best... in reply there are no seamen's captaincies in Victoria. The sea ports along its coast are few in number and except at the port of Melbourne there are never at any one time a large number of ships in Port. The spiritual want of the seamen at Melbourne are supplied by voluntary agency. December 30 1884. Page 205.
- To Mr J. Hill Katandra - In reply ... a clergyman of the Church of England has authority to charge 8/- for officiating at a funeral, besides mileage, where it takes place at a considerable distance from his place of residence. January 7 1885. Page 230. I see that your letter was addressed to the Bishop. It was opened in his Lordship's absence in accordance with his instructions.
- The Manager Bank of New South Wales - Mr a'Beckett has gone out of town for a month. I shall be glad if you will give directions for the suspension during his absence of the arrangement by which his signature as well as my own to cheques on the Church Management Fund ( unless a special request to the contrary be endorsed ) is required when such cheques are of the value of 100 pounds and upwards. January 8 1885. Page 233.
- To The Reverend S. Sandiford ( Samuel ) - In reply ... guardians ought to have been called for the current year for all unconsecrated churches vested in the Bishop or the official Trustees of the Diocese, in accordance with the Act of the Church Assembly No 1 1882 of which I enclose a copy. I think that all the churches in your mission district are so vested. Where guardians have not been previously appointed, the Bishop is empowered to give directions to .. call meetings for the elections, and I will ask him to give such directions to you. In the meantime you.. take it granted that he has given them and proceed accordingly. January 8 1885. Page 234.
- To the Reverend Canon Goodman - There has been some correspondence about the result of the exam of Mr Taylor of Golden Square, and the Bishop, in a letter addressed to Mr a'Beckett, who arrived today, says "Mr Taylor was only put back because he had not served the usual time as a Reader; but his having a University degree makes a difference. Tell Canon Goodman of the fact and say that I think we might put Taylor on the list of those that may be ordained 6 months before the time of which we informed Taylor. Ask him to let Taylor know this. January 8 1885. Page 237. To Archdeacon MacCullagh. January 8 1885. Page 239.
- To P. Fethers Esquire Preston - I am informed that you left the accompanying specification at the Registry this morning with the request that Mr a'Beckett or I would sign it. There must be some mistake. The parties to the contract will be the guardians of the Church and the tradesman who undertakes to do the work. The officials at the Registry have nothing to do with the matter. January 9 1885. Page 241.
- To The Reverend C.T. Perks - I find that the vouchers for payments on account of the Cathedral are no longer certified by two members of the Building Committee, but by yourself alone. As the auditors of our church accounts will be sure to note this alteration ( for they were very particular last year in observing that the vouchers were duly certified ) I shall be glad if you will obtain from the Committee a resolution sanctioning the change of procedure and by forwarding it to Registry. - To the Reverend Canon Potter, St Marys Parsonage Hotham .. I forward the Bishop's licence to you to perform the duties of Chaplain and Lecturer in Theology in Trinity College. A fee of one guinea is payable to the Church Management Fund in connection therewith. January 12 1885. Page 250.
- To C. Murray Puckle Esquire - In order that nominators may be elected for St Thomas's the District must be formed into a Parish under the provision of the Patronage Act - vide Part 1. As soon as the Parish is constituted the Vestry will be in a position to elect nominators. To obtain the constitution of a Parish the Minister and lay officials of the Church in the District should petition the Bishop, setting forth very accurately on a place the boundaries deemed to be suitable. January 15 1885. Page 256.
- To The Reverend C. T. Perks ( Charles Thomas ) - The Bishop hopes to return to Melbourne on the 2nd February and will be glad to have a meeting of the Cathedral Board on Thursday the 3rd at 3.30 p.m. The Council is to meet at 4.15. - To Messrs Reed, Henderson and Stuart, Architects, Elizabeth Street Melbourne - By the terms of a 50 years lease of a portion of St James land recently granted by the Trustees thereof to the Victorian Estate Company Limited, the company have covenanted to next buildings on the land at a cost of not less than 30,000 pounds within three years from the 1st July last "under the superintendence of and according to plans, elevations, sections, specifications and conditions to be approved in writing by such architect or architects as shall be appointed by the Bishop in Council of the Diocese of Melbourne". ... I have the honor to inform you that in accordance with the terms of the lease Bishop in Council has appointed you to be their architects for the purposes documented? by the lease, and I now forward for your inspection the plans for the buildings proposed to be erected by this company. Your earliest attention to them will oblige, and I shall be glad to be in a position to inform the Bishop in Council if they meet your approval. January 23 1885. Page 273..

- Meetings of the Cathedral Erection Board and of the Council of the Diocese. The attendance of members of the Cathedral Erection Board is requested at a meeting to be held at the Diocesan Registry on Tuesday the 3rd February at 3.30 p.m. to consider a proposal to construct a further portion of the nave and other business. A meeting of the Council of the Diocese is appointed to be held on the same day at 4.15 p.m. or as soon after as the business of the Cathedral Board shall have been dealt with. - To the Reverend Poole ( Henry John Alexander Riddle ) - In reply.. the Church land at Tarrawingee has not been bought under the operation of the State Aid Abolition Act, and that, more than a month having elapsed since the Church was licensed, the Trustees cannot call a meeting for the election of Guardians under the provisions of Section 22 of the Trustees and Vestries Act. The Bishop can call a meeting under provisions of Section 27, and this I will ask him to do on his return to Melbourne, January 28 1885. Page 286.
- To The Reverend J. S. Woods ( John Samuel ) - Diocesan Registry Jan. 29 1885. - It is not customary for guardians to sign printed forms of declaration. We do not keep them. The proper course is to write the form of declaration in a book - the minute book is the best - each successive body of guardians can then sign it, and a permanent record is preserved. Page 266.
- To The Reverend Canon Bromby - The Bishop will be glad if you will meet him and Canon Chase and Handfield at this office on Wednesday next at 4 p.m. to consider the propriety of establishing a Deaconesses Institution for the worst part of Melbourne. January 30 1885. Page 290.
- To The Very Reverend Dean of Melbourne - The Bishop directs me to say that he will be glad if you will get some one to go to Silver Creek and organise the work there for Mr Bale, who is too young to be left unsupported... January 30 1885. Page 291.

Godby ( Charles John ) - In reply to your letter of this day in which you ask the bishop to preach at the opening of the enlarged church at Malvern, his Lordship directs me to say that he will not be back in Melbourne till the 25th May. After that date he will appoint a day if you wish him to do so. As to the proposed separation of Malvern and Oakleigh, the Bishop requests that you will be so good as to obtain for him an expression of opinion by the people of Oakleigh. February 3 1885. Page 313.

Toomath ( Andrew ) - At a meeting of the Bishop in Council held yesterday, your letter of the 2nd about the Church at Broadford was read and considered, and I was directed to say that there being no Diocesan Architect at present the Guardians of the Church had better employ their own man. - To J. C. Cole Esquire Burnley Street Richmond - Before I can send you the Promissory notes for which you ask in your letter of the 13th. I must ask you to be good enough to let me know how much has been actually contributed towards the erection of the new Church. By reference to previous correspondence you will see that the amount of the loan depends on the amount of contributions. February 16 1885. Page 379.
- To The Reverend H. B. Macartney - The Bishop directs me to say in answer to your note to him ... that he consents to any speaking within your church at the anniversary meeting .. but not to serving tea in it as has been done in some churches at similar meetings. February 21 1885. Page 395.
- To J. Freeman Cambray Terrace Albert Park - I have been informed ... that it is contemplated to erect a Tablet to the late Mrs Macartney on the wall of St James Church which the Bishop will be asked to unveil. As a preliminary.. it will be necessary that the Bishop issue a faculty outlining such erection as was done with reference to the tablet erected to the memory of the late Mr Becher. If you will send me a rough sketch of the intended tablet with the words which it is intended to inscribe .. I shall prepare the petition for the faculty from the parishioners which can be signed ( or in the case of the ? tablet by some persons on their behalf. February 25 1885. Page 418.

- To J. Freeman Cambray Terrace Albert Park - On proceeding to prepare the memorial asking the Bishop to issue a faculty for the erection in St Jame's Church of a tablet to the memory of Mrs Macartney I find that it is intended ? on the tablet that it was erected by "the vestry ".. This would make it appear that the "parishioners "had nothing to do with the matter... the matter may be put right by the insertion of the words "and parishioners ".. I would also suggest that the Dean be .. on the tablet as Incumbent of "the Church "instead of "St. James "that making the designation agree with that given of the late Mr Becher... February 27 1885. - To The Inspector Lunatic Asylums Victoria - In reply to your memorandum of yesterday, I beg to inform you that the Reverend G. F. Cross ( George Frederick ) has been appointed temporarily by the Bishop to the charge of the parish of Christchurch, Beechworth. It is part of his duty to conduct the customary services at the Lunatic Asylum there. March 3 1885. Page 432.
- To Mr J. Freeman Cambray Terrace Albert Park S. Melbourne .. the Bishop directs me to say that when he returns from his visitation he will fix a time for the ceremony of uncovering the tablet at St James Church. It will be about the beginning of June. March 4 1885. Page 438.
- To The Reverend Godby ( Charles John ) St. Georges Parsonage Malvern - I submitted your letter of the 26th ulto. respecting the proposed separation of Oakleigh and Malvern, to the Bishop on his return to town, and he has directed me to lay it before the Council of the Diocese at next meeting. Reed Esquire - Church at North Carlton - The accompanying plans of a building to be used, first as a Church, and afterwards as a School-house when a permanent Church is built, have been submitted for the approval of the Bishop... Billing and Son 78 Little Collins Street West - I beg to inform you that the Bishop in Council has determined before appointing a Diocesan Architect to let it be known by public advertisement that the making of the appointment is in contemplation, in order that any architect who desires to obtain it may intimate his wishes on the subject. Standrin ( John ) .. the Bishop, who is travelling in the country, directs me to say that there is no special service of initiation is necessary for Miss Ashmore, as he acknowledges the validity of R. C. baptism. But before Miss Ashmore becomes a communicant of the Church of England, she should have an interview with the Rev. Cadwaladr Thomas and satisfy him that she believes the doctrines of the Church of England. March 27 1885. Page 517.
- Messrs George and George Collins Street - Your offer to continue your tenancy of the hoarding in front of the works now being carried on in connection with the Cathedral from the 1st July next at the rent of 120 pounds per annum was considered by the Cathedral Board at its meeting yesterday.... - Copy - We the undersigned Theological students at Trinity College in the Diocese of Melbourne, do hereby agree to the subjoined conditions as submitted to us, 4th April 1878.. 3. That in the even of our ordination we pledge ourselves to serve as Clergymen of the Diocese of Melbourne for not less than seven years; or that we will refund the whole sum expended by the Church on our education. 4. That in the event of our leaving Trinity College before obtaining Holy Orders, or becoming a licensed Reader, we pledge ourselves to refund not less than half the sum expended by the Church on our education. Gladstone Healesville - Permission to build upon our Church land at Healesville must be given by the Trustees and the plans of the intended building ought to be submitted to the Council of the Diocese for approval. Our land at Healesville consists of a Government reserve allotment... reserved by order of the Governor in Council gazetted on April 16 1869.... April 29 1885. Page 628.
-To The Reverend Canon Handfield - By direction of the Bishop I write to ask you .. to inspect certain alterations being made at St Thomas's Church, Essendon and to report to him whether anything is being done, or proposed to be done, to which objection can properly be taken. May 4 1885. Page 644.

- To The Reverend E. A. Thomas ( Edward Alphonso ) St Andrew's Clifton Hill - In reply.. the Bishop directs me to say that he decidedly objects to any Masonic ceremony in laying of the foundation stone of St Andrew's Church. He feels that those who are not masons ought not to be compelled to participate in the rites of a ? society. May 11 1855. Page 662.

Colville Esquire Secretary Central Board of Health - In reply.. the Bishop will consecrate the Church of England portion of the public cemetery at Cut Paw Paw on being petitioned thereto by the Minister of the Parish in which the Cemetery is situated and some of the residents in the neighbourhood. If you will send me particulars of the ground and its subdivision I will furnish you with a form of petition. May 20 1885. Page 685. ( note - Cut Paw Paw cemetery was part of the Cut Paw Paw Sanatorium near the Williamstown Cemetery. It was identified in the Dept of Human Services Cemeteries Unit Archives as the Old Werribee Cemetery because at the time of the file being opened - 1956, it was in the Werribee Shire ).

I send you by book post a copy of our Assembly Constitution Acts and of all the Acts which under its authority have been papered by the Church Assembly in the Diocese of Melbourne.. November 11 1884. - To Miss L. E. Wight Jersey House Hewlitt Street Cheltenham England .. the project of establishing a Girl's High School here has made progress. The Committee charged with the duty of promoting the object have had several meetings; they have prepared a Bill for constitution of the School which will be considered by our Church Assembly at a special meeting to be held on the 3rd of next month, and I have very little doubt that in due course the school will come into existence... Even if the Church Assembly decide at once on proceeding with the project, much time must elapse before the money needed for building operations can be raised, and the building itself be designed and actually constructed. The Bill for the Foundation of the School provides for its management by a Council. Should the Bill pass substantially in its present form I will take care to bring your application under the notice of the Managing Body when the time arrives for considering the appointment of a Headmistress or Master. In all probability our new Act will before the 3 of Dec have received the royal assent and it will be a very good thing if we availed ourselves of this special session to get a resolution papered under which we could call into existence within our Diocese the corporate body of trustees the Act was obtained to create... There is no ? provision in the act for "making"a common seal. I presume that the right of the Trustees to make a seal is implicitly conferred by Section 4.... November 20 1884. Pages 102 - 103. Resolved that it is expedient and the assembly desires that there be constituted within the Diocese of Melbourne a corporate body of Trustees for the purpose of holding property in trust for the benefit of the Church "within such"? - To The Reverend J. A. White ( Joseph Addison ) - In accordance with your request I forward herewith forms of si quis and Testimonial. The latter must be signed by 3 baptised clergyman ( incumbents ) of the Diocese, and the former must be read in the Church where you are in the habit of officiating and signed by the officiating Minister and one or more of the guardians. There is no objection to your reading the si quis yourself, if you cannot get someone to take your place for the Sunday. When the documents have been duly signed, you must send them to Registry. They should be sent in 3 weeks before the day appointed for the ordination. December 23 1884. Page 194.

- To The Reverend B. Best... in reply there are no seamen's captaincies in Victoria. The sea ports along its coast are few in number and except at the port of Melbourne there are never at any one time a large number of ships in Port. The spiritual want of the seamen at Melbourne are supplied by voluntary agency. December 30 1884. Page 205.

Hill Katandra - In reply ... a clergyman of the Church of England has authority to charge 8/- for officiating at a funeral, besides mileage, where it takes place at a considerable distance from his place of residence. January 7 1885. Page 230. I see that your letter was addressed to the Bishop. It was opened in his Lordship's absence in accordance with his instructions.
- The Manager Bank of New South Wales - Mr a'Beckett has gone out of town for a month. I shall be glad if you will give directions for the suspension during his absence of the arrangement by which his signature as well as my own to cheques on the Church Management Fund ( unless a special request to the contrary be endorsed ) is required when such cheques are of the value of 100 pounds and upwards. January 8 1885. Page 233.
- To The Reverend S. Sandiford ( Samuel ) - In reply ... guardians ought to have been called for the current year for all unconsecrated churches vested in the Bishop or the official Trustees of the Diocese, in accordance with the Act of the Church Assembly No 1 1882 of which I enclose a copy. I think that all the churches in your mission district are so vested. Where guardians have not been previously appointed, the Bishop is empowered to give directions to .. call meetings for the elections, and I will ask him to give such directions to you. In the meantime you.. take it granted that he has given them and proceed accordingly. January 8 1885. Page 234.
- To the Reverend Canon Goodman - There has been some correspondence about the result of the exam of Mr Taylor of Golden Square, and the Bishop, in a letter addressed to Mr a'Beckett, who arrived today, says "Mr Taylor was only put back because he had not served the usual time as a Reader; but his having a University degree makes a difference. Tell Canon Goodman of the fact and say that I think we might put Taylor on the list of those that may be ordained 6 months before the time of which we informed Taylor. - To P. Fethers Esquire Preston - I am informed that you left the accompanying specification at the Registry this morning with the request that Mr a'Beckett or I would sign it. There must be some mistake. The parties to the contract will be the guardians of the Church and the tradesman who undertakes to do the work. The officials at the Registry have nothing to do with the matter. January 9 1885. Page 241.
- To The Reverend C.T. Perks - I find that the vouchers for payments on account of the Cathedral are no longer certified by two members of the Building Committee, but by yourself alone. As the auditors of our church accounts will be sure to note this alteration ( for they were very particular last year in observing that the vouchers were duly certified ) I shall be glad if you will obtain from the Committee a resolution sanctioning the change of procedure and by forwarding it to Registry. - To C. Murray Puckle Esquire - In order that nominators may be elected for St Thomas's the District must be formed into a Parish under the provision of the Patronage Act - vide Part 1. As soon as the Parish is constituted the Vestry will be in a position to elect nominators. To obtain the constitution of a Parish the Minister and lay officials of the Church in the District should petition the Bishop, setting forth very accurately on a place the boundaries deemed to be suitable. I have the honor to inform you that in accordance with the terms of the lease Bishop in Council has appointed you to be their architects for the purposes documented? by the lease, and I now forward for your inspection the plans for the buildings proposed to be erected by this company. - To the Reverend Poole ( Henry John Alexander Riddle ) - In reply.. the Church land at Tarrawingee has not been bought under the operation of the State Aid Abolition Act, and that, more than a month having elapsed since the Church was licensed, the Trustees cannot call a meeting for the election of Guardians under the provisions of Section 22 of the Trustees and Vestries Act. The Bishop can call a meeting under provisions of Section 27, and this I will ask him to do on his return to Melbourne, January 28 1885. Page 286.
- To The Reverend J. S. Woods ( John Samuel ) - Diocesan Registry Jan. 29 1885. - It is not customary for guardians to sign printed forms of declaration. We do not keep them. The proper course is to write the form of declaration in a book - the minute book is the best - each successive body of guardians can then sign it, and a permanent record is preserved. Page 266.

If you will send me a rough sketch of the intended tablet with the words which it is intended to inscribe .. This would make it appear that the "parishioners "had nothing to do with the matter... the matter may be put right by the insertion of the words "and parishioners ".. I would also suggest that the Dean be .. on the tablet as Incumbent of "the Church "instead of "St. James "that making the designation agree with that given of the late Mr Becher... February 27 1885. He feels that those who are not masons ought not to be compelled to participate in the rites of a ? society. May 11 1855. Page 662.

Colville Esquire Secretary Central Board of Health - In reply.. the Bishop will consecrate the Church of England portion of the public cemetery at Cut Paw Paw on being petitioned thereto by the Minister of the Parish in which the Cemetery is situated and some of the residents in the neighbourhood. If you will send me particulars of the ground and its subdivision I will furnish you with a form of petition. May 20 1885. Page 685. ( note - Cut Paw Paw cemetery was part of the Cut Paw Paw Sanatorium near the Williamstown Cemetery. It was identified in the Dept of Human Services Cemeteries Unit Archives as the Old Werribee Cemetery because at the time of the file being opened - 1956, it was in the Werribee Shire ).

- To W. R. looker Esquire - By direction of the Bishop I return the accompanying documents relating to " "Lathamstowe". His Lordship thinks it would be better to let more clergymen have the use of the houses rather than let the same clergymen have the use of them more than once in a year. The Bishop supposes that there was a lack of applicants .. so some action should be taken to facilitate the occupation of the houses by more of the clergy. June 2 1885. Page 716.
