AIM operated with respect to three acts of the Diocesan Synod, namely the Home Missions Act 1962, The Melbourne Diocesan Act 1962 (this repeals the original Act of 1946) and the Trustees and Vestries Act. The Melbourne Diocesan Centre - established in 1946, this experiment groups seven of the inner area parishes together (Carlton, Collingwood, Kensington, Montague, North Fitzroy and North Melbourne - St Albans and St Marys) for the sharing of experience, worship, finance and leadership. St Bartholomew Burnley withdrew in 1950. - Scene September 27 1996 page 7 - Inner City Ministry - In 1946 Archbishop Booth appointed Geoffrey Sambell... to devise a co-operative approach to ministry in run-down inner city parishes, mainly to the North of Melbourne... He was head of the Diocesan Centre, and vicar of St Marys North Melbourne 1948-49. - A condition of entry into AIM was the suspension of incumbency rights: clergy were appointed as priests-in-charge, licensed to a director. - Initial members were St Marys North Melbourne, St Albans North Melbourne, St Judes Carlton, St Lukes North Fitzroy, St Barnabas Montague (in South Melbourne, subsequently sold in 1967), and Holy Trinity Kensington. - money came from three parishes: property owned by St Mary's North Melbourne (rent from flats) ; proceeds from the sale of St Barnabas Montague and the sale of St Matthias Church plant in North Richmond (vicarage, hall and church) in 1971. St Mathias was at that time already working with the Uniting Church, who gave hospitality - a building - to them. Later joined with St Philips Collingwood, St Mathias North Richmond became a separate parish once more in 1995, withdrawing from AIM (see Church scene, September 29 1995). - St Marys North Melbourne let Aim at the beginning of 1992. -St Albans North Melbourne was in 1916 a branch church of St Marys, from which it became independent in the late 1940s - St Judes Carlton exited AIM in 1988 See Anglican Inner City Ministry Council - minutes April 4 1971 - St Matthias - demolition of the property has commenced. - minutes September 19 1974 - Ecumenical Church centre now completed and soon in use, but the official opening is in December.
